Le Cleuziou Holiday Cottages

THE ACCOMMODATION

Each cottage sleeps 6 with 1 double room, 1 twin room and 1 room with bunk beds.  A cot and high chair and stair gates are available on request.   All bedding and towels are provided (but not beach/pool towels).  Changeover is normally Saturday but other days may be available by arrangement.

 Hortensia

A cream painted cottage with blue shutters, feature granite stonework around the doorway, windows and corbelling where it meets the roof, Hortensia  retains the original windows, front door, hand sawn floorboards, and staircase.  It has a huge granite fireplace in the kitchen/diner, and a woodburner stove in the lounge area.   The downstairs bathroom has a vanity wash basin unit and a shower over the bath, and upstairs is another bathroom with toilet, bath and another vanity wash basin.  Each bedroom has its own special appeal and character.  The double bedroom has a “sleigh” bed and is spacious, the twin room is comfortable and has an interesting “niche”, as does the bunk room.  All rooms have views of the trees and fields which surround this property.  The kitchen is well equipped with microwave, cooker, fridge freezer, toaster, kettle, cafetiere, and dishwasher.  A welcome pack of baguette, butter, cheese, wine, eggs, milk, tea and coffee is provided to get you off to a good start.

The lounge has 2 settees which each seat 3 people, and there is a television with Sky Free to View channels, and a DVD player.  Logs are supplied for the stove which is very efficient and soon brightens up a dull evening.  There is also an oil boiler which heats the hot water, and radiators to all rooms.  The kitchen/diner is very light and airy and can seat up to a dozen people.  There is access at the rear onto a large patio with barbecue, dining furniture and loungers.  Sunshades are provided!  A gravel pathway leads to the games room, which also houses the laundry facilities and a spare shower room with washbasin and toilet.

 La Laiterie

A stone cottage which was originally the dairy and which has delightful arched stone doorways front and rear, and a huge granite fireplace with raised hearth on which there is a welcoming woodburning stove, for which logs are provided.  Several stone niches have been left as features, but the interior has been completely renovated to be light and bright with ample wall lights, radiators, power points and double glazing.  There  is a television with Skye Free to View Channels, and a DVD player.  The bathroom is very luxurious and there is a vanity wash basin in the main double bedroom.  The twin bedded room is L shaped, making great use of the space available, with a dormer looking to the front over the courtyard.  The bunk room has a ventolux window to the rear, overlooking the lawns.  The kitchen/diner is light and bright and newly fitted out with dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave, oven, toaster, kettle, and everything necessary to make some great meals.  All rooms have great views, and you will find the many mature trees provide homes for so many birds that the dawn chorus goes on all day!  There is direct access at the rear onto the large patio with barbecue, dining furniture and loungers.  The welcome pack is provided as for Hortensia.

 Outside

Outside there are tables and chairs in the courtyard for each cottage, nice for morning coffee, and socialising, and a large patio with tables, chairs, loungers and sunshade, plus a gas barbecue each in the back garden.  Part of the garden area to the rear is fully enclosed for the security of small children, but you are welcome to explore and use the rest of the property.  There is a badminton set, and boules (no court as yet), and the games room has a full sized table tennis table, some board games, books, lego, jigsaws and DVD’s to borrow.

The games room also houses the laundry facilities, and has a “wet room”, which can be used as a spare bathroom by either gite.

There are two areas of garden around the gites – the lawned area, contained by stone walls, and the “orchard” which is accessed over a little bridge.  This is another lawned area surrounding the swimming pool.   Beyond this is a paddock for the horses, and beyond that a field set to maize, which you can walk around.  There is a stream all along our boundary, small enough to be safe, but great fun for making dams and paddling.  There is another pony paddock, and another maize field, and the commune lavoir where the locals can do their washing, and some still do!  The field around the lavoir is rather boggy and not recommended, a definite welly puller.  The bread oven on the south side of the courtyard is very pretty and in very good order, and we hope to bake bread there in June.

You are welcome to visit the horses in their stables, but please do not feed them titbits, you can help with making up and distributing the feeds if you ask.
